I was on duty when two stories broke early Saturday morning: A US drone strike killed the leader of of the Pakistani Taliban, and there was a shooting incident at the Los Angeles International Airport.
We were following developments on CNN and monitoring wire services for updates. Information came bit by bit, just a few lines, initially. Then a longer post followed by a series of short updates. The actual work was pretty straightforward. We checked for new information and updated the story as things developed.
What blew my mind, though, was the realization that I was watching meta-history happen, and that other people in other newsrooms around the world were doing the same thing at the same time.
